Inspiration references
The inspiration references behind this campaign came from a combination of fashion editorials, street culture, contemporary branding, and experimental typography. I wanted the visual direction to feel expressive, emotionally charged, and slightly disruptive — something that would immediately grab attention while still feeling authentic to Diesel’s rebellious identity.
A large part of the inspiration came from luxury and streetwear campaigns from brands such as Diesel, Balenciaga, Acne Studios, and Jean Paul Gaultier. I was especially interested in campaigns that challenge traditional beauty standards and embrace individuality, imperfection, and attitude. Instead of creating visuals that felt overly polished or commercial, I explored imagery that felt raw, bold, spontaneous, and emotionally expressive.
Editorial photography also played a major role in the creative process. I studied the use of unconventional posing, exaggerated movement, dramatic cropping, and direct eye contact often found in modern fashion magazines. These references helped shape the body language and energy of the campaign, allowing the visuals to feel confident, rebellious, and slightly chaotic in an intentional way.
Typography became another important source of inspiration throughout the project. I explored oversized lettering, stretched forms, distortion, layering, and text interaction with the subject itself. Rather than functioning only as information, the typography became part of the emotional expression of the campaign. The bold white text contrasts against the intense red backgrounds to create tension, movement, and visual impact while reinforcing the idea of rebellion and self-expression.
Color was also inspired by high-energy fashion campaigns and underground youth culture aesthetics. The dominant use of red was chosen to communicate intensity, confidence, passion, and disruption. Combined with textured visuals and grain effects, the campaign creates a slightly vintage and imperfect feeling that aligns with Diesel’s identity and rebellious attitude.
Beyond fashion references, I was also inspired by music culture, internet aesthetics, youth identity, and social media behavior. I wanted the campaign to feel culturally connected to a generation that values authenticity and self-expression over perfection. The phrase “No Explanation” reflects the idea that individuality should not need validation or approval from others.
Overall, these inspiration references helped shape a campaign that feels expressive, fashion-forward, rebellious, and visually memorable while staying aligned with Diesel’s bold brand personality.
